Provision is another word with different meanings in English and Swedish. It is what we call a false friend.

Provision, from Latin PROVIDERE, to foresee, attend to, refers to the action of providing something or that which is provided, such as food and drink for a journey or an amount of money set aside from profits for future bad debts. The Swedish for this is försörjning or proviant; the financial word is avskrivning. Provision is also used to express a condition or requirement in, for example, a legal document. This provision is in Swedish villkor or stadga.

In Swedish, provision, of the same Latin origin, means commission, that is, a sum of money paid to an agent.
